Your business has to have a central theme. To achieve this,is quite simple really.I mean, look at your work experience;hobbies;education and interests. From there it it simply a matter of picking one subject that you know enough of and are passionate about. It has to be something that you love ,something that you can do for prolonged periods and still enjoy. This is important and should never be compromised.

Having one focus in your business has one other benefit. It undoubtedly gives you a fighting chance in business. In other words,it gives you a leading edge over other general businesses.Consider this, if your business offers several services and your advertising budget is limited ,your advertising efforts are likely to prove fruitless. On the other hand ,had you concentrated your efforts on a single product/service,the results could very likely have been succesful.

One of the most frequent mistakes made by entrepeneurs is neglecting to understand their market.Who is going to buy and/or use your product/service?If you cannot answer this with certainty, then you're in trouble. But all is not lost since you can make amends.First of all, you'll need to do some groundwork.Do your research thoroughly. After doing this, you should be able to complete your typical customer's profile.I mean, you ought to know where you customers typically live, eat, sleep, work, how they shop and where etc ,etc. You ought to know your customer. This cannot be overemphasised.

The one side effect of having focus in your business is that you will inevitably know a lot about your subject. If you continue long enough you cannot help but be an expert on your chosen speciality. And before you know it,you will be recognised as an expert because you would be.Obviously, your business stands to gain a lot.

To recap, have focus in your business, love what you do and know your customers.
